2009 What?
You put it in your ear and set fire to it? Some of you
may have seen an article in the news a few week’s ago about a
teenager who’s partial deafness cleared-up when he bent over a pool
table to play a particularly tricky shot. Apparently, a cotton wool
bud had been lodged in his ear for nine-years, it popped-out while
playing the shot and his deafness was suddenly cured! Some are lucky
enough to be ‘cured’ by a tricky shot at pool, but the rest of us
have to wait for more ‘conventional’ remedies, such as ear
candles. Ear candles
are an ancient and natural therapy handed down through many
civilizations. It is believed that the Ancient Greeks initially used
ear candles for cleansing, purifying and healing on a spiritual basis,
and later on a more physical level. Hopi ear
candles originate from a similar practice, carried out by the Hopi
Indians in North Arizona, (Hopi meaning peaceful people) and the
candles in use today are made according to a formulae originally used
by the Hopi Indians. Hopi ear
candle treatment, or Thermo-Auricular Therapy to give it its official
title, is a simple but relaxing treatment. You lie on your side and a
candle is carefully placed in your ear and left to burn slowly for
about 10 minutes. All you hear is the soft whisper and crackle of the
burning candle as it acts like a chimney and delivers a soothing
vapour of honey and herbs, such as Chamomile, Sage and St.John’s
Wart, to your ear, inner ear, throat and eventually your sinuses. The
treatment continues with a gentle and relaxing ear massage and once
one ear is finished you turn over and have the other side ‘done’.
After both ears have been treated, just lie back and enjoy a soothing
face massage while the candle vapours work their magic!
All it takes is about 40 minutes and you will feel completely
relaxed at the end of the treatment. Ear candles
can be used to treat many ear, nose and throat problems, such as:
earache, sinusitis, tinnitus, snoring, glue ear, excessive or
compacted ear wax, headaches and migraines. I have
successfully used Hopi Ear Candles on children, adults and the
elderly; often bringing rapid relief to sufferers. Not at all
like a tricky shot at pool, but helpful, nevertheless. |
