Other articles from the Pitcorthie Newsletter:- June 2011 Treat
yourself like a celebrity …
Last
year, a publication just like this one, (well The Scotsman actually)
carried an article stating that Gwyneth Paltrow favours cupping,
Sharon Stone swears by crystal healing and Prince Charles defends the
use of coffee enemas. The article highlighted
how alternative therapies are increasingly being used by celebrities
to help them with specific ailments, and also as a means of getting
them through the stresses and strains of being a celebrity.
Acupuncture, homeopathy and osteopathy are now almost mainstream and
increasingly celebrities and others are turning to these and more
obscure therapies to find an answer to their ailments.
And
a survey last year revealed that 68 per cent of people believe that
alternative therapies, which focus on treating the whole person
(lifestyle, emotional and spiritual well-being) are as valid as
conventional treatments. With
the rapid increase in the number of Chinese herbalists in the high
street and shopping malls, many of us have now heard of acupuncture,
reflexology, reiki and herbalism - but what about ear candles, bee
venom and quantum touch therapy? The National Health Service will
endorse complementary medicine as part of a person's care package, but
some people are still sceptical about less orthodox treatments.
However, they needn’t be, as many complementary therapies really do
work, providing relief to many sufferers. I
am a complementary therapist and work from my home in Pitreavie, where
I provide Reflexology, Indian Head Massage and Hopi Ear Candle
therapies to men, women and children in Dunfermline and West Fife. Reflexology
is one of the more common therapies.
Most people have heard of it and many have tried it.
Reflexology stimulates reflex points on the feet, and sometimes the
hands, in order to encourage a beneficial effect on the various organs
of the body, to help improve general health and wellbeing and bring
the body back into balance. Indian Head massage is an ancient therapy
originating from India. Despite its name it involves massage of the
upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp and face.
It is great for relaxing the muscles, stimulating hair growth
and alleviates headaches and eye strain. Ear
Candles were used by Native American Indians for many years. The
therapy involves burning the candle to four inches from the ear and
helps in the treatment of earache, migraines, méničre's
disease and
tinnitus. Given
the success of some of these therapies with celebrities, you might

to help her beat breast cancer by asking for her hospital room to be
painted pink and Madonna has reportedly used Indian fertility remedies
to help her conceive at the age of 46! |
